Gary Todd has served on the Deadwood City Commission since 2011. Gary is currently the President of the Commission and serves as Commissioner of Public Safety (Police & Fire). He has served as President of the Tomahawk Lake Country Club Board of Directors, Chairman of the local Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Chapter, is a longstanding Elks Lodge #508 member, served on the Board of Directors for the Deadwood Chamber of Commerce, Board Member for the Deadwood Economic Development Corp. as well as served on the South Dakota Retail Liquor Association Board. He was one of the first members of the Deadwood Parking and Transportation Committee soon after the trolley system was implemented.

Gary considers himself a lifelong resident as he moved to Deadwood at a very young age. He and his family have been involved in several businesses over the years including motels, restaurants, saloons, laundromat and ranching. Gary is currently employed with Couer Wharf Mine. Gary and his wife, Marlene, who is also a long-time resident both graduated from Lead/Deadwood High School. They have two children, Lyndsey and family in Chandler, Arizona and Ryan and his family in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Gary is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, golfing and cruising the hills.
