Charles (Chuck) Turbiville (Term 2013 - 2018)

Charles “Chuck” Turbiville (July 13, 1943 – October 20, 2018) was a Vietnam veteran, South Dakota legislator and Mayor of Deadwood.  Born on July 13, 1943, Turbiville spent his formative years in Newell, South Dakota and graduated from Newell High School.  In 1967 at the age of 24, Chuck enlisted in the United States Army and served as a commissioned second lieutenant during the Vietnam War.  After being honorably discharged, Chuck returned to South Dakota and worked for the Governor's Office of Economic Development in Pierre under a number of governors.  In the political arena, Turbiville served as the State Representative of Lawrence County; Chair of the Legislative Council Executive Board; Majority Whip; LRC Executive Board member, LRC Executive Board Chair and the South Dakota Lottery Commission.  In 2013, Turbiville was elected Mayor of Deadwood and served in this capacity until his death on October 20, 2018.  Turbiville was buried at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota.
