Patrol Section

The Patrol Section is the backbone of the Police Department from which all other support-units are derived. Officers serve the law enforcement needs of Deadwood's citizens, businesses, and visitors.

There are 20 City of Deadwood Patrol Officers assigned to the Patrol Section who serve our community around the clock 24 hours a day, every day of the year. These officers are the first line of response to calls for service, traffic enforcement and have many other service related duties assigned to them individually.

Police Reserves

The Deadwood Police Department Reserve program is an important asset to the Department. The Deadwood Police Department uses State of South Dakota certified Reserve Officers for specified tasks and duties that create efficiencies for the department and improve service to the community. They may assist patrol staff in the day-to-day operations of their patrol duties. The Reserve Officers also supplement the Department's staffing during Deadwood's many special events.

Traffic Safety

The Deadwood Police Department is adamant about reducing alcohol related accidents, speed related accidents and fatality/injury accidents related to lack of seat belt usage. Here is South Dakota laws referring to seat belt/child restraints.
