George S. Mickelson Trail

Experience this 106.5-mile point-to-point trail near Deadwood. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 36 hours and 26 minutes to complete. This is a popular trail for hiking, mountain biking, and running, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. Dogs are welcome and must be on a leash.

The best times to visit this trail are April through October.

This lovely gravel and paved trail through the Black Hills is over 100 miles long and can be accessed from 15 trailheads. It includes more than 100 converted railroad bridges and 4 tunnels.

Accessibility:  There is one (1) designated accessible space in the paved parking lot off of Sherman Street at the north end of the trail. It is van-accessible with striped access aisles. The trail surface is gravel with some short paved sections. It is typically at least 6 feet wide.

The most accessible portion of the trail is the first about 5.9 miles when going south. The majority of the trail is estimated to be in the mostly gentle (5% or less) grade category with several steep (8-12%) sections. All-terrain tires or motorized equipment may be needed for the surface type and grade.
