City of Deadwood Archeology
Imagine… an entire city designated as an archeological site!
Deadwood contains a rich archeological history buried beneath its streets and backyards dating to the 1876 gold rush. Since 1990, over ninety archeological sites have been identified, recorded and in some cases, tested and excavated within the Deadwood city limits. This page will provide a brief overview of Deadwood’s rich archeological legacy and Deadwood Historic Preservation’s efforts in preserving this history.
