Deadwood Volunteer Fire Department operates from a modern nine bay station located near Main Street and Highway 14A on the west end of town. A full-time maintenance man is employed, who also is a volunteer firefighter. A volunteer force of thirty-two operates ten pieces of apparatus assigned to the Deadwood Volunteer Fire Department as well as Lawrence County. The City of Deadwood Fire Protection District, rural and in-town covers 6.6 miles.
